We champion a masterworkof landscape architecture, conceived by Frederick Law Olmsted Sr. and designed by the Olmsted Brothers. The centerpiece of the first county park system in America located in the renaissance city of Newark, Essex County Branch Brook Park now enjoys new life. Together with a community of friends, we restored the park’s historic design and are refreshing it for today's lively use.
We are Branch Brook Park Alliance,a public/private partnership organized in 1999. We provide design expertise and funding support to help Essex County with ongoing stewardship. Projects already completed by the partnership are new ball fields, extensive cherry tree plantings and restoration of historic park sites set the stage for complete renewal. Today, Essex County Branch Brook Park hosts annual events, sports and concerts. Like the park's renowned annual Cherry Blossom Festival, these activities attract thousands. As a sponsor and volunteer of Branch Brook Park Alliance, you can help bring our park back to life.
Our Mission
As stewards of Essex County Branch Brook Park, our mission is to safeguard and enhance this remarkable 360-acre landscape masterpiece while ensuring it remains a vibrant and equitable resource for all. We are dedicated to promoting access and opportunity for underserved communities so that everyone can experience the park’s beauty, history, and vitality.
Through comprehensive environmental stewardship, capital improvements and workforce development, we preserve and strengthen the park’s legacy for generations to come. Our health and well-being initiatives—from fitness and wellness programs to resource fairs—support healthier lifestyles and stronger communities. We cultivate curiosity and leadership through education and youth services, partnering with schools, universities, and community groups to create hands-on learning experiences for K–12 and post-secondary students. By uniting these efforts, Branch Brook Park Alliance not only secures the future of the park but also enriches the lives of the more than one million people who visit annually, advancing equity, community prosperity, and regional vitality.
Restoring the Park To restore a landscape work of art to its highest standards of use and beauty. To enroll visionaries who support and sustain this effort.
Renewing Our Spirit To bring together people of all ages and backgrounds in the ongoing renewal and care of their park. To engender pride of place and a sense of ownership in an entire community.
