ABOUT US

OUR BEGINNINGS WERE HUMBLE

We champion a masterwork of landscape architecture, conceived by Frederick Law Olmsted Sr. and designed by the Olmsted Brothers. The centerpiece of the first county park system in America located in the renaissance city of Newark, Essex County Branch Brook Park now enjoys new life. Together with a community of friends, we restored the park’s historic design and are refreshing it for today's lively use.

We are Branch Brook Park Alliance, a public/private partnership organized in 1999. We provide design expertise and funding support to help Essex County with ongoing stewardship.

Projects already completed by the partnership
are new ball fields, extensive cherry tree plantings and restoration of historic park sites set the stage for complete renewal. Today, Essex County Branch Brook Park hosts annual events, sports and concerts. Like the park's renowned annual Cherry Blossom Festival, these activities attract thousands.
As a sponsor and volunteer of Branch Brook Park Alliance, you can help bring our park back to life.

Our Mission

As stewards of Essex County Branch Brook Park, our mission is to safeguard and enhance this remarkable 360-acre landscape masterpiece. We are dedicated to promoting equity, ensuring that individuals from underserved communities, especially people of color, have accessible and enriching experiences in the park. Through strategic partnerships and impactful programs, we aim to positively influence the overall health and well-being of our community, while also nurturing the park's significance as a vital economic driver for the region with over one million visitors annually.

In service to our community, we provide comprehensive workforce development and responsible park maintenance to preserve its splendor. Our commitment to inclusivity extends to programs and collaborations that enhance the social determinants of health for our constituents, making the park a place where everyone can thrive. Our multifaceted approach not only secures the park's future but also empowers our community to prosper.

Restoring the Park
To restore a landscape work of art to its highest standards of use and beauty.
To enroll visionaries who support and sustain this effort.

Renewing Our Spirit
To bring together people of all ages and backgrounds in the ongoing renewal and care of their park.
To engender pride of place and a sense of ownership in an entire community.
