Seasonal Worker (Gardener/Landscaper)    
Accepting Resumes For The 2026 Season

Overview
In partnership with Essex County Department of Parks Recreation & Cultural Affairs we are seeking highly energetic Seasonal Workers interested in caring for Essex County Branch Brook Park. The employer specifically is Essex County. This temporary, seasonal position provides opportunities to learn about horticultural work, plant selection, garden design, and developing workforce skills. 

Seasonal Position Time Frame
Positions start as early as late March and end late October. Positions are not available November - February but we encourage you to apply and express interst during those months for the upcoming season. 

Responsibilities 
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
  • Leading volunteers in stewardship projects
  • Mulch, edge, cultivate, and the removal of invasive species
  • Prune and trim trees, shrubs, and plants
  • Installation, monitor, and maintenance of trees, shrubs, and perennials
  • Monitor and maintain park grounds to ensure a pleasant appearance
  • Working with and leading volunteers in support of stewardship tasks

Physical Demands
The candidate must be able to handle physical demands such as ...
  • Lift up to 50 lbs. to waist height
  • Work outdoors for 6-8 hours on your feet in a variety of weather conditions
  • Handle shovels, rakes, pruners, handsaws, and other tools in a safe manner

Preferred Requirements 
  • Prior experience landscaping
  • Working with volunteers
  • Strong interest in horticulture, public parks, landscape design, and environmental issues
  • Must be willing to undergo a criminal history background verification

Compensation
This position is temporary, employed and funded by the Essex County Department of Parks, begins in March and ends in October.
  • $15.13 per hour
  • Part time, up to 32 hours per week
  • Workdays are Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday of each week
  • Possible shift times are between the hours of 8 am and 5 pm, depending on your availability. 
  • Paid Sick Days​​
