Athletics

Essex County Branch Brook Park is home to a variety of opportunities both organized and informal athletic activities. Permits must be obtained for the following playing fields:
  • Baseball:  two fields in the Middle Division; one in the Extension
  • Softball:  three fields in the Middle Division; two in the Extension
  • Cricket:  two creases in the Northern Division
  • Soccer &/Or Football:  one field in the Middle Division
  • Youth Soccer:  one field in the Northern Division

Basketball courts in the Southern Division available on first-come, first-served basis.
Branch Brook Park Roller Skating Center is located in the Southern Division. Click here for more information about the Roller Skating Center.
Althea Gibson Tennis Courts offer 16 hard and four clay playing surfaces; for more information, please call 973.575.1000.

Bicycling is a popular activity on the park’s roadways.

Bocce courts can be found adjacent to the Cherry Blossom Center in the Extension.

​Joggers and runners can be found on the park’s pathways throughout the year; an unpaved, two-mile loop in the Northern Division is an especially popular circuit.
