In 2002, the Branch Brook Park Alliance along with Essex County, created the Kiyofumi Sakaguchi Memorial Grove. Dedicated to the esteemed former vice president of Prudential Financial in the United States. A native of Japan, Kiyo often came to this park that reminded him of his home 'Sakura.' The Japanese term for the flowering cherry tree means good fortune, spring, love and affection. We and the Prudential company honor this man and his work here in this grove, which soothes our spirits and and is filled with the beautiful flowering cherries he loved so much. Sweet Pepperbush, Arkansas Bluestar, and Bush Honeysuckle are the standout species in this garden that are nestled along the water's edge.
